DEA Adds Separate Registration for Marihuana Extracts

DEA filed a notice that marihuana extract will continue to be treated as a Schedule I controlled substance and will require its own Administration Controlled Substance Code Number. The notice further defined marihuana extract as “containing one or more cannabinoids that has been derived from any plant of the genus Cannabis, other than the separated resin (whether crude or purified) obtained from the plant.” The separate code numbers will allow the DEA to track the material and will aid in compliance with international drug control treaties. The registration of marihuana extracts with the new code number will be in effect January 13, 2017.
